Joe Russo’s Almost Dead drummer and namesake Joe Russo, MMW keyboardist John Medeski and guitarist Jonathan Goldberger have confirmed a pair of trio shows. The musicians, who have long, involved histories together, will perform both 8pm and 10pm gigs at New York’s Nublu on June 5.

Russo and Medeski have played together in a variety of contexts over the years and the drummer originally reconnected with his middle-school friend Marco Benevento outside a John Medeski show at New York’s Tonic 25 years ago, leading to the Duo and then JRAD. Goldberger and Russo performed together in the Colorado-bred jazz act Fat Mama in the 1990s and early ’00s and have more recently collaborated in Selcouth Quartet.

In related news, from April 15-18, Billy Martin will host a series of shows at New York’s Tonic, including a duo set with Medeski on April 16. Martin’s other offerings during the run include a performance with electronic wiz Ikue Mori on April 15, the Bamboo Orchestra on April 17 and a paired performance with tap dancer and percussionist Melissa Almaguer on April 18.
