Ween are up to something. Yesterday, the legendary avant-rock outfit sent a shock through their fervent following with an understated post to their social channels: a picture of their Boognish symbol captioned, “Is this thing on, mang?”

That’s more than enough to get a rise out of Ween’s fanbase, especially after a period of marked uncertainty in the wake of their latest live hiatus. In August of 2024, the band abruptly axed the remainder of their scheduled performances, including a Chocolate and Cheese 30th anniversary celebration at Philadelphia’s Mann Center, to guard Mickey “Dean Ween” Melchiondo‘s mental health against the taxing conditions of touring, leading them to “step away from the stage for the foreseeable future.”

Though it’s as cryptic and leftfield as any move Ween ever made, some have speculated that the group’s renewed presence online – their last post prior announced a Record Store Day reissue for Shinola in October of last year – could signal that Dean and Aaron “Gene Ween” Freeman could reunite with their tried and true touring band of Dave Dreiwitz, Claude Coleman Jr. and Glenn McClelland in the near future. Of course, there’s also the possibility of more archival content; as they marked 30 years of their landmark fourth album Chocolate and Cheese with a deluxe reissue last year, there’s always a chance that the band is gearing up to give a similar treatment to that album’s bawdier 1996 follow-up, 12 Golden Country Greats.

Until the band breaks their silence, we can only hope, patiently and desperately, for more. Stay tuned to Ween updates at ween.com.
