On Thursday, Phish returned to the waterfront stage at Moon Palace Cancún to greet their fans for night two of their Riviera Maya 2026 residency. While the four-decade jam pioneers set a high bar with their series kickoff, which included two unexpected track revivals and a live debut, they stuck to the standard by sharing more new material during their follow-up.

Phish launched into their second Mexico show by serving up a heaping helping of “Gumbo,” which sustained the crowd for 12 minutes before a drop into heavier improvisation. Setlist staple “NICU” took on some tropical flavor with a shuffling rhythm that danced into expansive segued treatments of the dreamy “Prince Caspian” and a hard-rocking “Oblivion,” carried on for 12 and 18 minutes, respectively. Frontman Trey Anastasio toggled to his acoustic guitar for an intimate lead on “Brian and Robert,” then the ever-intricate “Stash” set up a dance party on the calypso cover “Ya Mar.” After an unexpected detour into “McGrupp and the Watchful Hosemasters,” Phish wrapped their first frame with an explosive closer of their Kasot Växt standout “Say It To Me S.A.N.T.O.S.”

Phish’s second set eschewed their usual rotation of several extended tracks in favor of just four songs, each carried out to daunting proportions. The rapturous run began with a towering “A Wave of Hope,” which rolled for 22 minutes from an uptempo funk into a murky undercurrent of low tones before crashing down again into “Ruby Waves.” The perfect segue that bridged to the Ghosts of the Forest cut built radiance for an uninterrupted 29-minute bliss jam, which, while shy of the 38-minute 2019 rendition that ranks among the band’s longest explorations, was unforgettable nonetheless.

A tight turnaround through “Lonely Trip” set Phish on a 16-minute show-closer of “What’s Going Through Your Mind.” Finally, as one last satisfying surprise, the band opened their encore by debuting the new original “Dancing in Midair,” a spacey, tender song that showed their softer side, then dashed into a grand finale of “Run Like an Antelope.”

Phish will return to the stage tonight, then wrap up their run on Saturday, Jan. 31. Learn more about Riviera Maya at phishrivieramaya.com, and stream the shows via livephish.com.
