On Friday, Jan. 23, Eggy returned for their second performance at Widespread Panic’s Panic en la Playa. On a bill with some of the most beloved acts in the scene today, the rising indie-jam quartet’s final show at the 13th annual destination festival capitalized on good company by hosting Sierra Hull for a sit-in.
After taking the stage at Riviera Maya, Mexico’s Hard Rock Cafe on Wednesday with a set lined with special covers, Eggy’s late-night show on Friday capped off the action-packed four-day getaway with another eclectic setlist. Eggy commenced their performance with fan-favorite “Woah There,” then reeled off into a four-track chain of segues, beginning with the heavy shuffle of “Atomic Age.” The band blazed through “You,” then called mandolin master Hull to the spotlight to lend her talents to their thoroughly honed version of The Band’s “Chest Fever.”
Hull stayed in the mix for Eggy’s Waiting Game standout “Way of the Stone,” then ducked out before the band started up a cover of John Brown’s Body’s “Searchlight.” Eggy’s take of the indie-reggae group’s 2013 hit was meticulously merged into Crosby, Stills & Nash’s classic “Suite: Judy Blue Eyes,” featuring a notable tease of the Grateful Dead’s “Dark Star.” From another perfect segue into their six-year setlist staple “Razi,” the band returned for the closing passage of “Suite: Judy Blue Eyes,” then finally closed out the festival with their tried and true original “Shadow.”
Eggy will perform next on Jam Cruise 22, sailing from Feb. 7-12, then set off their stacked spring tour itinerary with an appearance at Cleveland’s Beachland Ballroom on March 4. Find tickets and more information at eggymusic.com/tour, and read on for the full setlist from Friday night.
