On Friday, April 11, Grammy-nominated trio Khruangbin surprised their hometown with an impromptu, free performance at Cactus Music in Houston. The gig was intended to celebrate the record store’s 50th anniversary and spawned before the band’s Saturday night follow-up at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in Woodlands, Texas.

On the day of the group’s record store concert, Cactus Music unveiled instructions on procuring access ahead of the 7 p.m. show time. According to setlist.FM Khruangbin stepped onto the stage and nodded to their 2015 album, The Universe Smiles Upon You, with the melodic unveiling of their initial move: “Zionsville.”

The ensemble used their stage time to work through 12 moves that pieced together parts of their discography, with particular attention to their aforementioned debut record. Khruangbin worked on “The Number 3” and kept up the numerical theme with their entrance into “August Twelve. ” Keeping with the count, they coursed through “August 10” and “Three From Two,” the initial nod to their latest release, which continued with “A Love International.”

Before closing out their Woodlands warm-up, Khruangbin gave legs to their 2019 EP title track, “The Infamous Bill.” The ensemble closed their record store gig after the fan favorite, “People Everywhere (Still Alive).” Following the group’s Cactus Music event, they proceeded with their Saturday follow-up, which mustered A LA SALA in full, representing their first set, followed by a mix of material that sought to exhibit their collective prowess during the latter frame.
