In June, Neil Young will hit the road with the Chrome Hearts, his new backing quartet, for the Love Earth Tour, making 23 stops across the US, UK, Europe and Canada through the summer. As anticipation for his outing builds, Young has announced a change in policy for all further tours to come: going forward, the legendary singer-songwriter will no longer offer Platinum tickets.

Young made his change of heart known with a dispatch to his Neil Young Archives blog, which outlined the ethical concerns that founded his break with the standard (as they always do). This time around, the artist credits his inspiration to Robert Smith and his position against Ticketmaster’s dynamic pricing function for the Cure’s Lost World Tour, recirculating an article on that highly-publicized call-out before making his own.

In a 2024 interview on The Cure’s revival run with The Times of London, Smith shared that “We didn’t allow dynamic pricing because it’s a scam that would disappear if every artist said, ‘I don’t want that!’ But most artists hide behind management. ‘Oh, we didn’t know,’ they say. They all know. If they say they do not, they’re either f***ing stupid or lying.” Young praised the statement and underscored, “It’s this story that really helped me to realize that I have a choice to make and can make a difference for my music-loving friends.”

“My management and agent have always tried to cover my back on the road, getting me the best deals they could,” Young’s dispatch continues. “They have tried to protect me and the fans from scalpers who buy the best tickets and resell them at huge increases for their own profits. Ticketmaster’s high-priced Platinum tickets were introduced to the areas where scalpers were buying the most tickets for resale. The money went to me. That did not feel right. VERY SOON, PLATINUM Tickets will no longer be available for my shows.”

“I have decided to let the people work this out,” Young concluded. “Buy aggressively when the tickets come out or tickets will cost a lot more in a secondary market……”

Young confirmed his Love Earth Tour in February after forecasting that the content of the performances “will reflect the feelings of the times”; in that politically activated spirit, the legendary artist announced that he’s working to book a free tour kickoff show in Ukraine. The upcoming tour will be Young’s first alongside his new backing band of guitarist Micah Nelson (a.k.a. Particle Kid), bassist Corey McCormick, drummer Anthony Logerfo and organist Spooner Oldham, which made its debut at Farm Aid last year, then previewed its hard-hitting sound from the studio with the foreboding single “big change coming.
