Moonalice continue a long-standing commitment to its community today with the release of “Kamala (Follow Her),” a new single sharing support for the Democratic Presidential nominee. The genre-bending Bay Area-based psych-rock outfit’s latest dispatch is a rousing meditation on political reality, inspiring faith in change from a worrisome situation and holding hope for the Vice President’s campaign. The new release is available now on all streaming platforms.
To accompany and contextualize its unprecedented direct political commentary, the 11-piece ensemble helmed by Roger McNamee has issued a descriptive statement to its fans. “According to Moonalice legend, this band is committed to love, peace, and happiness,” the group recounts. “As you know, we normally keep our politics on the down low. However, these are not normal times. Democracy is on the ballot in November and the band will do what it can to make sure that Team Democracy prevails.”
To that effect, “Kamala (Follow Her)” lays out the stakes for the 2024 election, decrying “Internet titans and Wall Street tycoons with money and power and greed” and a certain “dangerous fool” just as McNamee rallies his audience to “tell those patriarch bullies to pack up their bags.” The track is resolute and encouraging without losing its grounding in the true situation, and for that reason resounds powerfully as a guiding light for those determined to drive the nation from darkness.
“To us, politics is like riding a city bus,” the band illustrates. “Only rarely will it take you exactly where you want to go. What it does is get you closer than you are now. Each of us has issues that really matter to us, but with democracy on the ballot, there is a compelling argument to be made for putting aside every other issue to make sure we still have a representative government next year.”
In closing, Moonalice charges its listeners to make their voices heard. “Every conversation, every word of encouragement, and every song can make a difference. Make sure you are registered to vote. Help your friends get registered. And then cast your ballot for Team Democracy.”
