On Saturday, July 20, The Disco Biscuits coasted out to Patchogue, N.Y. for a highly-anticipated headline set at Great South Bay Music Festival, a star-studded centerpiece for the Northeast jam festival scene. After showings from Dopapod, Dogs in a PIle, Karina Rykman and more, the four-piece fusion outfit assumed the spotlight and brought the fest’s day three energy to an apex with a thrilling, fully segued nine-track set. To bring the performance to its impeccably high standard for thrills, the band tapped vocalist and returning collaborator Erin Boyd, who reprised her roles as The Queen for key selections from the band’s groundbreaking sci-fi rock opera Revolution in Motion, released to widespread acclaim earlier this year.

The Disco Biscuits took the stage to the tune of an inverted treatment of “Astronaut,” which it left yet unfinished for a ripping move into “Rock Candy,” originated by Marc Brownstein and Aron Magner’s Electron supergroup with Tom Hamilton and Mike Greenfield. After these staples, the band moved into the main portion of its set, calling Boyd to the stage to compliment “Twisted in the Road.” This marked the vocalist’s second sit-in with the jamtronica pioneers, after joining the group for the celebrated Revolution in Motion album release party at New York’s Webster Hall in April.

Boyd, best known for her work with Resistance Revival Chorus and Jennifer Hartswick, added he vocal chops to “Twisted in the Road” in her first collaboration with the band, but reached out to a new entry with the following “Escape,” which also marked the tracks first live performance by The Disco Biscuits (though Tractorbeam gave an animated treatment at BISCOLAND). Next came “Why We Dance,” which was also a repeat for Boyd, before “In The End We Have Forever,” for which the artist issued the newly added lyrics to the originally instrumental track.

After Boyd’s sit-in, Bisco turned over to the classic “Helicopters,” inserting a final Revolution entry of “Another Spin” into the two-pronged rendition, which also featured teases of Daddy Yankee’s club classic “Gasolina” and Phil Collins’ “Take Me Home.” Fans can catch the Disco Biscuits again at the next stop in its summer festival circuit, which will bring the band to a fest-closing headline performance at Long Pond, Pa.’s Elements Music & Arts Festival on August 11.
