Last Friday, the Warren Haynes Band commenced its Now Is The Time European Tour, which picked up on June 14 in Eindhoven, Netherlands. During night one of their international outing, the ensemble debuted a new original song, “Go Down Swinging,” ultimately alluding to a trend that would emerge during the midway point of their tour: June 18 and 19, respectively.
Hitting on the aforementioned motif, Haynes and company, featuring longtime friend and collaborator John Medeski on keys, Gov’t Mule bassist Kevin Scott, New Orleans’ Terrence Higgins on the drums, and sax player Greg Osby, introduced a pair of debut originals during Tuesday’s gig. The performance took place at Festplatz Friedrichsau in Ulm, Germany, representing the band’s fourth stop on this specific tour.
After the concert’s first set, which presented a mix of material that alluded to Haynes’ career roots, his own self-scribed material, and pulls from Gov’t Mule and the Allman Brothers’ archive, the musician and his accompaniment clicked into a pair of debuts. Landing as the initial songs to start the latter half of the set, the Warren Haynes Band performed first-time live deliveries of “Lies Lies Lies” and “You Ain’t Above Me.”
Keeping the trend alive, the band wasted no time following up on Tuesday’s gig with another concert on June 19 at De Roma in Borgerhout, Belgium. Notably, for this debut, they resisted the same build-up, positioning the song on the night’s initial set in the sixth position of the night. Notably, Haynes touched on the potential for new music in a previously released comment, touching on the European tour, “We will be reinterpreting a lot of different music from the storied ‘songbooks’ of many of the bands I’ve been fortunate to have been a part of over the last three decades or so combined with material from my solo work, including new music.”
Scroll down to view setlists from The Warren Haynes Band’s latest appearances. Tickets remain on sale for their impending concert, slated for tomorrow, June 21, at Sala Apolo in Barcelona.
