On Monday, June 3, Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real shocked fans with the announcement of an extended hiatus for the group, who will disband indefinitely to pursue independent ventures in the future. After more than 15 years of delivering top-tier country rock, sharing stages with some of the genre’s biggest names and contributing to such high-profile projects as 2018’s A Star Is Born–for Nelson wrote and produced music and the band featured onscreen–the dispatch confirms that listeners should not await any further material from the band in its current form.
However, continued collaboration may still be in the cards. In the message to its audience, Nelson and POTR emphasize a continued love of performing together and an intent “to work together again in the future, both individually and as a group.” Further, Nelson will write, record and assume the spotlight as a solo artist, just as bandmates Anthony LoGerfo, Tato Melgar, Corey McCormick and Logan Metz look on to their own independent ventures.
Despite its imminent departure, the band will continue its summer tour itinerary to completion, giving its public one final chance for a fond farewell. Listeners can find Nelson & Promise of the Real at a total of six further gigs in Texas, California and the Mountain West through August 30, including appearances at KHYI’s 28th Annual Texas Music Revolution in McKinney, TX on June 7, Sacramento, Calif.’s Cal Expo on July 25 and the JAS Labor Day Weekend Experience in Aspen, Colo. on August 30.
