Santigold has announced a special appearance at Fotografiska, New York’s venerated visual arts center. Set for next Thursday, March 7, this event will mark the genre-disintegration electro-pop artist’s first engagement in the city since the fall of 2022, though it will be far from a conventional performance: Alongside acclaimed director and longtime collaborator Frank Ockenfels 3, the musician will walk attendees through the immersive and entrancing videos that accompanied her most recent release, 2022’s Spirituals.

Scheduled to align with the conclusion of Fotografiska’s exhibit on Ockenfels and his interdisciplinary accomplishments–which began on October 29 of last year and will close on March 9–this event will shift the focus from his portraiture and photography to highlight his playfully pathbreaking video work, which offers the perfect complement to Santigold’s appetite for disruption. In conversation onstage, Santigold and Ockenfels will extend untold insight on the context and creative process behind the videos for “Shake,” “Ain’t Ready,” “Nothing” and the propulsive dark-wave lead single “High Priestess,” which adorns the artist in a ceremonial array of tubes and lights, reminiscent of the costuming of Afrofuturism pioneers like Sun Ra and Erykah Badu.

Beyond the history of these works, the duo will reflect on inspiration, insight, and the magic of creation. Tickets for this exclusive experience are available now via newyork.fotografiska.com.
