Chess Club, the songwriting duo comprised of Champagne (Adam Chase) and Paris (Danny Darress), have released their debut EP, They Wanted A Demo. The set features a trio of special guests, such as Vulfpeck’s Cory Wong, who served as the mixing engineer, and musical assistance from Isaiah Sharkey and Felix Pastorius.

They Wanted A Demo was recorded as a live, in-studio performance at Echo Mountain Studios in Asheville, N.C. The collection presents four tracks, with Champagne on drums and Paris on keys and vocals, beginning with “Your Shirt,” a masterful telling of the uncomfortable experience we have all had of being caught trying to read someone’s shirt.

The pair continues to tap into their collective wit on the holiday-infused “Santa Knows,” innuendo-laden song nod to “Santa Baby” and “Jingle Bells,” with some added guitar work from Sharkey. “It’s Not Me, It’s You” highlights the Chess Club’s stylistic malleability–a highlight of the extended play.
