On Sunday, Oct. 8, Mumford and Sons participated in the 2023 edition of Austin City Limits. The highly anticipated performance included a series of memorable moments, one of which was their debut of a new tune, “Maybe,” featuring special guest Noah Kahan. The run-through occurred on the B-stage and was captured on video by the festival staff. Watch below.

During the first time performance, Marcus Mumford and Kahan shared the task of delivering the freshly scribed lyrics. The soft and meditative composition felt like a stripped-down, deconstructed take on the song–which featured soft riffs on the electric guitar from the band’s namesake.

The collective croon of the subtly and contemplative lyrics: “Maybe I’m halfway out the door / This wasn’t it, this wasn’t all I was asking for/ Maybe I’m spoiled, maybe I’m gettin’ old / Maybe I feasted too much before / This wasn’t it, this wasn’t all I was asking for,” added to the list of what-ifs which informed the composition.

Following the collaborative moment, Mumford and Sons responded via their official Instagram, adding: “Thank you Austin High and Huston-Tillotson concert choir for sharing your talent and joy with us. The future of Austin is in fine, fine hands. And @noahkahanmusic here’s to many more adventures sharing the road. We love you man. Third time’s a charm. See you next week. All love, the lads.”
