Today, George Porter Jr. announced that he’ll celebrate Halloween at New Orleans’ Chickie Wah Wah. The Meters co-founder and beloved bassist will usher in the day of the dead with his band, the Runnin’ Pardners.

The ensemble–comprised of Porter Jr. (bass), Michael Lemmler (keyboards and vocals), Chris Adkins (guitar and vocals) and Terrence Houston (drums and vocals)–hold the spirit of New Orleans in their sound, including the mystical and haunting aspects of the city which claims the title of the most haunted city in the United States.

Notably, yesterday, Porter Jr. paid his respect to the recently departed David Russell Batiste Jr. He shared that when he learned of the artist’s passing on Sept. 30, he cried. He went on to share, “Batiste has brought me so many tears over the past close to 40 years, there were tears of joy, tears of anger, tears of relief and some misplaced tears, none hurt me more then those tears of knowing I won’t see his face live again. Love You Russell Batiste, New Orleans will not be the same without You.”
