Earlier this week, Ozzy Osbourne released a statement announcing that he would no longer partake in the upcoming music festival, Power Trip, which is scheduled to take place on Oct. 6-8 at Empire Polo Club in Indio, Calif. As a follow-up, the artist’s slot has been filled by Judas Priest.
On Tuesday, Judas Priest made the announcement public, writing to their fans and followers on Instagram: “Power Trippers are you ready for some Judas Priest style Heavy Metal…..!! Judas Priests are primed and proud to fly the flag for Heavy Metal at this prestigious festival…… We are ready to raise double horns way up high together keeping the metal faith at this ‘bostin’ one of a kind Power Trip world event….!” The festival shared a similar announcement on their social media.
Osbourne’s July 10 announcement referred to his disappointment in canceling the appearance. He explained his decision: “My original plan was to return to the stage in the summer of 2024, and when the offer to do this show came in, I optimistically moved forward. Unfortunately, my body is telling me that I’m just not ready yet and I am much too proud to have the first show that I do in nearly five years be half-assed.”
Judas Priest will take Osbourne’s initial Saturday night slot. The same evening, AC/DC are scheduled to perform, while Guns n’ Roses and Iron Maiden will play Friday night, and Metallica and Tool will close out the festival on Sunday night. This is Judas Priest’s only 2023 appearance at the time, though they have announced a Europe tour slated for spring 2024.
