Page McConnell sat in with Mike Gordon and his solo band at South Burlington, VT’s Higher Ground last night. The keyboardist, who still lives in the Burlington area, emerged to join his Phish bandmate at the end of his first set for “Mull” and Talking Heads’ “Cities.” “Mull” appears on Gordon’s new solo effort Flying Games, though Phish has been playing the tune since 2021. Phish has covered “Cities” since the 1980s, and Gordon added it to his solo songbook in 2009, with guitarist Scott Murawski, who played the selection with his band Max Creek, on vocals.

McConnell has a history of sitting in with Gordon’s solo bands in the Burlington area. Phish kicks off their summer tour in Hunstville, AL on July 11.
