Following the June 16 release of their new record Emotional Contracts, alternative folk-rock group Deer Tick has shared a fresh live session featuring the nine-minute, slow-burn album closer “The Real Thing.”
The performance occurred in the group’s home state of Rhode Island at their studio in Providence. The session, directed by Brandon Herman, features all four members of the band, plus vocalist and guitarist John McCauley’s wife, Carlton, on piano. The live rendition cements itself as an emotional, gripping stand-out to the album.
Produced by Dave Fridmann, who has worked with the likes of The Flaming Lips and Spoon, the rock project marks Deer Tick’s first album with ATO Records, which represents alternative folk and rock giants in the music sphere, such as Trey Anastasio, Brittany Howard, My Morning Jacket and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard.
Deer Tick is currently participating in a West Coast summer tour with Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit and is set to kick off a fall tour this coming October with support from Country Westerns and Abby Hamilton. Deer Tick will also join the Avett Brothers for a four-day run in Riviera Maya, Mexico, from April 9-13, 2024.
