On Saturday, June 27, Boston-based jam outfit Neighbor stepped up to the plate at Fenway Park. The quartet treated the packed stadium to a special a cappella arrangement of “The Star Spangled Banner” before a highly anticipated game between the Red Sox and Miami Marlins.
Prior to the performance, the jammers teased fans by posting a photoshopped image of themselves dressed as a traditional barbershop quartet to their Instagram feed. Bandmates Richard James, Lyle Brewer, Dan Kelly, and Dean Johnston brought that imagery to life on game day, huddling around a single microphone in matching black and white Red Sox jerseys. After the game, the ensemble also took to social media, expressing gratitude for their stint at Fenway despite their hometown team’s 10-1 loss.
“What a thrill it was to sing the National Anthem at Fenway Park,” the band wrote in an Instagram post. “Thanks to all our fans, family and friends who helped us get to this point. Singing in front of (ahem) 30,000 people is no joke and we couldn’t have done it without you. 2023 is shaping up to be one for the books, on to the next adventure…”
