On June 18, The Black Keys continued the European leg of their Dropout Boogie tour, stopping at the indoor arena, Le Zénith in Paris, for the first of two nights on stage in the City of Light. After running through a 19-song main frame that included picks from their extensive discography and a pair of choice covers, the ensemble moved into their encore, featuring special guest Beck.

The tail end of the mainframe presented a hip-shaking drum solo on “She’s Long Gone,” Patrick Carney acknowledged the backbeat Dan Auerbach’s accolades behind the kit before thanking the audience. As the lights deemed, Carney’s gentle guitar riffs welcomed “Little Black Submarines,” which eventually developed into a wailing display of instrumentals.

A mock exit from the stage caused a stir from the audience as the crew members quickly adjusted the arrangement of mics, axes, and more. Within minutes, applause beckoned the pair back, and Carney said: “We’re going to have a special friend come play a song for us. Is that OK with you guys? Let’s give it up for Beck!”

After quickly recognizing the city once again, Carney launched into the iconic guitar riffs supported by Auerbach’s set and made special with a lyrical lead from the 1994 Mellow Yellow songwriter–never missing a beat. To follow, the group visited El Camino number, “Lonely Boy,” to close out the show, which saw Carney centered and Beck in a supportive role.
