Songwriter and harpist Mikaela Davis delivered another preview of her impending full-length release, And Southern Star, due on August 4 via Kill Rock Stars. The artist shared her single “Home in the Country” and its adjoining music video, which captures Davis’ blend of twangy ’60s-inspired pop-drenched melodies for a folk-rock finish.

The new tune was written by Cian McCarthy, who also provided guitar. Davis holds down lead vocals and adds her signature strums to “Home in the Country.” Additionally, the musician is joined by Shane McCarthy on bass, Alex Coté on drums, and Kurt G. Johnson via pedal steel, which drives the country-lean that can be compared to instrumentals from New Riders of the Purple Sage and other California country troubadours.

News of the artist’s forthcoming album arrives five years after the release of her debut collection, Delivery. Since then, Davis has left her hometown of Rochester, N.Y., and graduated to share the stage with Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Christian McBride, Bon Iver, Lake Street Dive and Circles Around the Sun.

“Home in the Country” is the latest release from Davis’ forthcoming set. Previously she delivered “Far From You” and “Promise” as initial listens and previews off the full-length set. To learn more about Davis or catch her on tour, visit
