On Wednesday, July 7, smoke permeated the New York City region, causing the cancelation of BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn’s initial night of programming. Today, in a turn of events, the folks behind the annual Big Apple get-together shared that Taj Mahal, The Harlem Gospel Travelers, and DJ Tara have rescheduled their sets and intend to take the stage this Monday, June 12.

The initial night of music was slated to feature a lineup that included blues legend Taj Mahal and Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Corinne Bailey Rae, in addition to The Harlem Gospel Travelers and DJ Tara, all of which were scheduled to perform at the Lena Horne Bandshell in Brooklyn, N.Y.’s Prospect Park. According to today’s update, all performers have signed on for the later date, with the exception of Rae, who was unable to maneuver the change.

In a post shared via social media, BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn penned: “Surprise! When we canceled our opening night out of concern for community wellness, the legendary Taj Mahal told us he couldn’t wait to get back on the Bandshell stage. With his enthusiasm and our commitment to bringing world-class artists to Brooklyn, we worked some magic to make it happen!”

They closed their statement by adding: “Come join us Monday night for a reimagined version of our opening night celebrations. We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to bring the vision of our 45th season kickoff back to life and welcome our friends and family down to the Bandshell. See you Monday!”
