Last night, Sept. 27, Foo Fighters and a bounty of guests, collaborators and friends celebrated the life of the late drummer, Taylor Hawkins, at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles. The event marked the second and final Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concert following a six-hour performance in London earlier this month on Sept. 3.

The performance, which tracked in at over 50 songs, began with an acoustic performance of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” by Dave Grohl’s daughter Violet along with Alain Johannes. Foo Fighters then took to the stage with Travis Barker and Joan Jett and got the spirit rocking with a cover of The Runaway’s “Cherry Bomb,” followed by Jett’s “Bad Reputation.”

Stars continued to roll out through the evening to perform once-in-a-lifetime songs in Hawkins’ honor: Kesha joined Chevy Metal for David Bowie’s “Heros,” Miley Cyrus joined Foo Fighters and Def Leppard for “Photograph,” Justin Hawkins and the late Foo Fighters drummer’s side project The Coattail Riders performed a four-song set, Mötley Crüe, Foo Fighters and Derek Day shared the stage, Them Crooked Vultures reunited for three songs performing “Long Slow Goodbye,” “Dead End Friends,” and Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” and Stewart Copeland and Foo Fighters covered The Police’s “Next To You.”

The highlights didn’t stop there: Taylor Momsen, Kim Thayil, Matt Cameron, Krist Novoselic, Dave Grohl and Pat Smear performed the eternal Soundgarden song “Black Hole Sun,” Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and Danny Carey shared some choice RUSH selects, Alanis Morissette, Foo Fighters and Chad Smith rallied the crowd with “You Outta Know,” and P!nk joined forces with Foofighters and Queen to perform one of the most true-to-form tributes of the night: “Somebody To Love,” a song Hawkins covered for years and famously just days before his passing at Lollapalooza 2022 Argentina. P!nk also sang with Nancy Wilson on “Barracuda” before joining Foo Fighters on “The Pretender” for the main set’s finale.

The closing run saw sit-ins from Rufus Taylor, Oliver Shane Hawkins – who once again played “My Hero” in honor of his father, along with “I’ll Stick Around” –, Omar Hakim, Chad Smith, Patrick Wilson and more. Another notable moment included a cover of Radiohead’s “Creep” with Dave Chapelle, a call back to one of the most cherished and earliest shows after the pandemic, when they performed to a sold-out, fully vaccinated crowd at Madison Square Garden.
