Last night Circles Around the Sun brought nearly two hours of dance party jam, as well as a pair of special guests, to downtown Los Angeles’ Teragram Ballroom. Joining the quartet were Los Angeles-based percussionist Andres Renteria (Father John Misty), sitting in for nearly the entire show, and harpist Mikaela Davis, welcomed for the band’s encore of its latest single, “Language.” Davis also opened the performance with a solo set of her own, inviting Circles Around The Sun keyboardist Adam MacDougall for the final song of her 45-minute appearance.
The homecoming for Circles Around The Sun showcased tracks from each of the band’s studio albums, including “Scarlotta’s Magnolias” from Interludes for the Dead, the 2015 debut currently slated for a limited edition vinyl reissue on October 21. The visit to the Teragram is part of a West Coast swing of dates on the group’s Language tour, which continues this weekend with stops at the Whale Rock Music Festival and the Santa Cruz Mountain Sol Fest.
