Last night, Phish returned to the stage at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colo., for the follow-up to Friday night’s memorable “one long ass set,” which was due impart to inclement weather which delayed the start of what should have been the band’s second set. Moreover, the Saturday, Sept. 3 show brought forth memorable takes on jammed-out classics like “Kill Devil Fans” and “The Moma Dance,” and also presented the first “Thunderhead” since Dec. 1, 2003.

“Punch You in the Eye” kicked off the first set for Phish. The set continued with a tight take on “Wolfman’s Brother” before working into “Walls of the Cave” with illustrious improvisations carried by keyboardist Page McConnell into Steve Wonder’s “Boogie On Reggae Woman.” The latter bled into “Stash,” which saw Trey Anastasio guide the instrumentation of the tune. An extended take on “Free” came before “Mike’s Song,” which marked the completion of Mike’s Groove, which was performed in reverse and began the night prior, when Phish played “Weekapaug Groove.” Then , for the final song of the first set, they landed on a lively rendition of “Bug.”

Set two got underway with “Say It To Me S.A.N.T.O.S.” into “Kill Devil Fans,” which hosted a unique jam that drifted from its typical arrangement and unfolded into “Sigma Oasis,” which featured an added improvisation. Then, Phish worked through “Thunderhead,” a song that was only performed a handful of times in 2003, the year it debuted and was put to rest. Last night saw the band return to the number after a shocking 19-year and 544 show gap.

A well-jammed “The Moma Dance” came after the night’s most memorable moment; the tune was sped up and saw a deliberate lead by Anastasio. A cover of Led Zeppelin’s “No Quarter” came next before the band ran through a take on “Also Sprach Zarathustra,” which trickled into a set ending “Split Open and Melt.” For the night’s encore, Phish returned to the stage for a go at “Fee,” which bled into “Slave to the Traffic Light” to cap their second to last stand at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colo.

Tonight, Phish will return to the fabled stage for the final stand of their Spring + Summer tour. For those interested in catching the action from home, livestream options are available through LivePhish.com
