Today, Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros have shared the latest preview of their upcoming live album, a monstrous rendition of “The Other One” from Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros: Live in Colorado: Vol. 2, due on Oct. 7 via Jack White’s Third Man Records. After sharing the first preview of the imminent release with a take on “Ripple” in early August, the ensemble has continued with today’s effort, a nearly 14-minute long epic featuring booming horns, spotless instrumentals and psychedelic lyrics.
Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros: Live in Colorado: Vol. 2 is the follow-up to the ensemble’s debut release, which dropped on Feb. 18. Like the band’s initial 2022 eight-track, Vol. 2 presents listeners with a series of songs that were performed in front of a live audience during the band’s past concerts at the fabled Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colo., on June 8 and 9, 2021, and Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater in Vail, Colo., on June 11 and 12.
The new album documents the group’s first performances in front of a live audience after the pandemic-induced hiatus brought touring to a year-long standstill. However, the energy of the musicians’ return to the stage is at an all-time high on their new collection of music, which sees the troupe take on several beloved tunes popularized by the Grateful Dead.
In addition to the ensemble’s namesake, Weir is joined by Don Was, Jay Lane and Jeff Chimenti on the new record, which also sees accompaniment by The Wolf Pack: Alex Kelly, Brian Switzer, Adam Theis, Mads Tolling and Sheldon Brown. Weir offered some thoughts via a press release, “This was out first quick tour with The Wolfpack. There’s a rawness to it that we’ll probably never get back again…”
For those interested in purchasing Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros: Live in Colorado: Vol. 2, it will be available on black vinyl and limited edition colored vinyl. The latter will be exclusively sold to independent record stores. In addition, interested parties can also purchase the album from the Bobby Weir Webstore/ TMR Vault, which will have an added limited edition color option, CD will also be sold beginning on Oct. 7.
