On Sunday night, Widespread Panic continued their run at The Beacon Theatre in New York City. The band is currently performing a five-night residency, which began on July 21, at the exquisite Upper West Side venue. Last night’s stand featured many covers, a dust-off of “One Kind Favor,” and a sprawling lineup of original tunes that only scratched the surface of the ensemble’s extensive repertoire.

Night four of the group’s Big Apple run got underway with Widespread Panic lending a spin to Van Morrison’s “Send Your Mind,” a song that has been a part of the band’s repertoire for over three decades. For their second number, they worked in a tune off their ‘Til the Medicine Takes album, with “All Time Low.” Then, the set continued with “Bear’s Gone Fishin’” before covering J.J. Cale’s seminal number, “Ride Me High.”

“You Got Yours” arrived next before the gaggle of musicians landed on “Space Wrangler,” which came before the fan favorite, “Walkin’ (For Your Love).” Then, the band visited guitarist Vic Chesnutt’s side project, brute., and covered two songs off Nine High a Pallet on “Protein Drink,” which flowed gracefully into a set ending “Sewing Machine.”

The second set kicked off with “Rock” and segued into “Party at Your Mama’s House” before the band ripped into “Ribs and Whiskey.” “Halloween Face” arrived next before Widespread Panic worked through a cover of Robert Johnson’s “Me and the Devil Blues.” The latter half of the second set included a take on “Bust It Big” before an exquisitely jammed-out “Drums.” Then, the group dusted off “One Kind Favor” for the first time since Jan. 24, 2020. Next, they returned with a reprise of “Bust It Big” before concluding the second set with a cover of Jerry Joseph’s “North.”

For the night’s encore, Widespread Panic decided to cover Funkadelic’s 1974 rhythm-laden “Red Hot Mama” to conclude their fourth night at The Beacon Theatre. Following last night’s impressive display, the Georgia band will again take the stage tonight, where they’ll conclude their New York City run with one final performance.
