On Monday, Blues Traveler made their annual July 4 appearance at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colo. The ensemble has performed at the fabled venue since the ’90s, and this year was no different. The Independence Day show was packed with fan favorites and upbeat covers. The gig also featured sit-ins by the Hornheads and Cory Wong during the main set and Robert Randolph during the band’s single song encore.

Following opening sets performed by Wong and Randolph, Blues Traveler’s July 4 concert got underway with a cover of The Charlie Daniels Band’s “The Devil Went Down to Georgia.” For the second tune of the night, the band dug into their repertoire with “NY Phophesie,” then they pulled out another cover, this time the Sublime favorite, 1996’s “What I Got.”

The Son Seals Blues Band’s “Funky Bitch” arrived next and was paired with an illustrious key and bass jam that led into “Run-Around,” which included keyboardist Ben Wilson’s son on trumpet. Next, “Regarding Steven” and “But Anyway” we played before Blues Traveler brought out their first guests, the Hornheads, who assisted on “Mulling It Over.”

The band followed up with the “Carolina Blues,” inviting Wong to the stage to help with the 1997 number. After a false start, the band got it right the second time as they worked into “Ode From the Aspect” before reprising the set opener, “The Devil Went Down to Georgia.”

Following the epic reprise which was coupled with a massive drum solo, Blues Traveler performed “Hook” to conclude their main set. Then, after a brief break, the band returned to the stage for a single song encore. They performed “The Mountains Win Again” as their final tune and invited Randolph to assist on the 1994 classic.

Blues Traveler are currently on an extended summer tour with Jewel and Train. Their tour continues tomorrow night at the Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion in Gilford, N.H. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased here
