Over the weekend, Dave Matthews Band performed a two-night stand at Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy, Wis. The group took the stage on July 2 and 3 and delighted the audience on night one with a bust out of Led Zepplin’s 1979 track “Fool in the Rain.” Then, they followed up the next night with a guest sit-in by Eric Krasno during “Lie in our Graves.”

The first night of Dave Matthews Band’s run at Alpine Valley Music Theatre got underway with “Pig” followed by a segued pairing of “Grace is Gone” and “Madman’s Eyes.” “Come On Come On” arrived next, ahead of “When The World Ends” and “You Might Die Trying,” off the band’s sixth studio LP, 2005’s Stand Up

Next, Dave Matthews Band threw it back to 2003 on “Stay or Leave” off Some Devil. They continued with “The Only Thing” and “#41.” Then, they performed a cover of Led Zepplin’s “ “Fool in the Rain.” The tune was once performed by the supergroup Yukon Kornelius, consisting of current DMB member, bassist Stefan Lessard, and Ed Robertson of Barenaked Ladies, Guster’s Adam Gardner and Eric Fawcett from Spymob, on Dec. 10, 2011. Additionally, on Jan. 15, 2004, the number was also performed during a Dave & Friends concert.

The show continued with fan-favorite “So Damn Lucky,” followed by “The Song That Jane Likes” and “Say Goodbye.” Next, the group performed “Grey Street” off the 2002 album Busted Stuff, and followed up with “Steady as We Go.” “Steady as We Go” marked the first time the full band had performed the tune since July 14, 2018.

Night one continued with “Pantala Naga Pampa” and “Rapunzel.” Then, Dave Matthews Band carried out “Samurai Cop (Oh Joy Begin)” and “Dancing Nancies” before a “Warehouse” set ender. For their encore, a solo Matthews returned to the stage to cover the Tex Ritter classic, “Rye Whiskey.” Then the whole band accompanied their frontman on “Two Step.”

Night two kicked off with a set performed by Krasno and The Assembly, who played a selection of their original music. The two-time Grammy Award-winning guitarist has an extensive history with Matthews since their first sit-in on May 14, 2001, in Albuquerque, N.M. Since then, the member of Soulive and Lettuce co-founder has joined the ensemble over 20 times. The most recent on-stage collaboration occurred on Nov. 29, 2018, when Krasno joined the Dave Matthews Band at New York’s Madison Square Garden.

The main set began with a handful of classics performed by the seven-piece, ahead of a cover of Peter Gabriel’s seminal track “Sledgehammer.” “The Dreaming Tree” arrived next before they broke into “Why I Am” with a tease of “Kill The Preacher.” The show continued with “Louisiana Bayou” and a tight take on 2005’s “Stolen Away on 55th & 3rd.”

Then, Krasno took the stage and jammed alongside the band during “Lie in our Graves,” a tune which appeared on the band’s seminal 1996 album, Crash. During the sit-in, Matthews lent space to Krasno, allowing the guitarist time to add an illustrious solo on the classic number. Following the sit-in, Dave Matthews Band continued the show with “So Right” and “Jimi Thing” before the crowd prompted the band into Sly & The Family Stone’s “Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin),” which preluded “The Ocean and the Butterfly” and “Don’t Drink The Water.”

They played fan-favorite “You & Me” next before breaking into a “Stay (Wasting Time)” set ender. For their encore, Matthews performed a solo take on Willie Nelson’s “Funny How Time Slips Away.” Then, the full band joined on a cover of “All Along the Watchtower,” which segued into a partial take on “Stairway to Heaven” and a reprise of Dylan’s seminal 1967 track to conclude the band’s run in East Troy, Wis.

Next, Dave Matthews Band will continue their summer tour with a two-night stand at Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., on July 8 and 9. Tickets are still available and can be purchased here
