Today, The Terrapin Family Band has announced they’ll perform at the Guild Theatre in Menlo Park, Calif. on Aug. 5. The performance will feature the group’s original members along with two extended family members, Eric Krasno and Melvin Seals.

During the performance, Grahame Lesh, Ross James, Alex Koford and Jason Crosby, along with the aforementioned Krasno and Seals will use the Grateful Dead songbook as a jumping-off point for interpretation, improvisation and heartfelt musical conversation. The Terrapin Family Band was originally formed at Phil Lesh’s Terrapin Crossroads in San Rafael, Calf. in 2012 and served as the venue’s house band. Since then, they’ve evolved into a deeply nuanced, diverse group with the musical chops to seamlessly thread classics and deep cuts into one-of-a-kind sonic tapestries.

There have been many iterations of The Terrapin Family Band’s lineup but Krasno has been a compatriot of the collective as early as 2013 when he joined them at New York’s Brooklyn Bowl and is now an official member.

“I played with the Terrapin Family Band for the first time back in 2013 at the Brooklyn Bowl. Even though I wasn’t an original member, I instantly felt at home playing with these guys,” Shared Krasno. “Over the years I got to play quite a few shows with this lineup and over time it started to truly feel like a band and a family. Every member of TFB has a unique blend of talents that can lead but also support one another when needed. I am beyond excited that we are getting everyone back together.”

James also shared his feelings toward the group, “The Terrapin Family Band is truly that…a FAMILY band.  I look at everyone in this band as a brother, not just a bandmate. We’ve traveled the world together, been through ups and downs, ins and outs. LOVE & MUSIC always wins.” He continued to say, “We’ve forged so many incredible friendships and musical partnerships over the years and paramount to all of them is the bond we’ve created with Eric Krasno. He’s been a teacher, a therapist, an expander, and a pretty good drinking buddy too… I’m so grateful that this story continues to grow and can’t wait to see what the next chapter has in store.”

Additionally, Koford added, “I’m excited to be entering a new chapter of the Terrapin Family Band with Kraz as an official member. We’ve all formed a true brotherhood over the last decade and that is at its core the spirit of the TFB!”

The new lineup’s retroactive reinvigorated energy is not to be missed. Tickets for The Terrapin Family Band at the Guild Theatre in Menlo Park, Calif. go on sale Thursday, June 30 at noon PT. Find tickets here.
