Today, the internationally acclaimed Grammy Award-winning rock outfit, The Strokes, announced that they’ll be hosting a concert fundraiser and rally in support of Kina Collins, a Democratic candidate for a seat in Illinois’s 7th congressional district. The performance and rally are set to take place at the Metro in Chicago on May 30.

The gathering marks The Strokes’ first time returning to the Metro in 20 years and promises to be a rare and deeply intimate performance as the venue has. a capacity of 1,100.

“Kina Collins has lived the challenges on the ground in IL-7 and she’s exactly the kind of non-corporate, good-hearted, progressive-minded leader the world needs in these corrupt times,” said Julian Casablancas, lead singer and songwriter of The Strokes in a press release. “In a system dominated by super-pacs and profit-fueled political machines, Kina is rejecting all that, and choosing to fight for people’s actual needs and desires.”

“We are so excited to have The Strokes coming to Chicago to help our campaign reach a new level of momentum in the final stretch before election day on June 28th,” added Collins. “Julian and I sat down recently, and he talked all about his passion for electing progressive working class leaders and transforming our Government. The Strokes are a huge band for so many voters in IL-7 and the Chicago area, and I really can’t wait to rally our supporters together and register some new voters.”

Collins’ path to Congress is still forging ahead; her campaign is only picking up momentum as it rolls towards June 28’s primary. So far she and her supporters have knocked on over 14,00 doors, made 120,000 phone calls and earned the support of several political organizations including Sunrise Movement, local Sunrise Hubs, Northside Democracy For America, Indivisible National, Elect Black Women PAC, Justice Democrats, National Organization for Women, and many more progressive groups from across the city, district and country.
