The Staples Jr. Singers have announced they will perform their first live concert as a family in over 40 years on April 23 in New York City. The ensemble has also shared two new singles ahead of the highly anticipated performances, “I’m Going To A City” and “Somebody Save Me.” 

The forthcoming gigs will mark their first-ever visit to New York City, making it a rare appearance outside of the Southern region of the U.S. for the ensemble, which consists of Edward Brown, A.R.C. Brown and Annie Crown Caldwell. 

The series will begin with a Gospel Brunch at Baby’s All Right in Williamsburg. A DJ set led by L’Rain will support the trio. Next, they’ll make their way to Greenpoint to perform outside at The Lot with Lovie, host of Summer School Radio. Finally, the Staples Jr. Singers will play at Friends & Lovers in Crown Heights for their final New York City performance. Their last show will see support from Binky Griptite of Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings. 

In addition to a forthcoming string of shows, The Staples Jr. Singers have also shared two tracks, “I’m Going To A City” and “Somebody Save Me,” ahead of the upcoming reissue of their only album, 1975’s When Do We Get Paid on May 6 via David Byrne’s record label Luaka Bop.
