Brooklyn Bowl has announced in a celebration of longevity DJ Uncle Mike will perform his 400th appearance at the venue on Saturday, April 16. Over the 12 years since opening, the Brooklyn Bowl has welcomed no other act has as often as DJ Uncle Mike to its lanes and stage.
“I am forever grateful to owners Peter Shapiro and Charley Ryan for giving me a musical platform in which to be creative and put a positive spin on everyone’s visit,” said DJ Uncle Mike in a statement. “During my long-running tenure here, I have had so many pleasant musical conversations with so many of the wonderful Brooklyn Bowl Brooklyn clientele and the amazingly enthusiastic staff. I feel blessed to have had all the fun and great experiences here, plus 12 years of being fed world-class food from the Bromberg brother’s Blue Ribbon kitchen here has been quite the bonus.”
The New York-based disc-spinner is known for staying away from basic trends in pop, hip hop, R&B, EDM, trap and mumble rap and instead elects to share an eclectic mix of vintage music spanning across rock-and-roll, new wave, Motown, classic rock, punk, funk, surf, disco, reggae, metal, ska, soul and more from the ’40s through the ’90s and beyond.
DJ Uncle Mike’s first set at Brooklyn Bowl took place in November of 2009 when he opened for Bustle In Your Hedgegrow who would eventually morph into Joe Russo’s Almost Dead. He as also opened for headling bands there including, Tom Tom Club, Twiddle, Dick Dale and more. As the Brooklyn Bowl expanded DJ Uncle Mike opened for Elvis Costello & The Roots at Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas and Fun Lovin’ Criminals in London.
DJ Uncle Mike is currently producing music documentary films including Rolling Stone Life and Death of Brian Jones, Sad Vacation, Nightclubbing: The Birth of Punk Rock in NYC, Sid: The Final Curtain, and is working on his upcoming book Mega-Dude: On Tour in 1987 America w/ Megadeth and a follow up titled Metal-Dude: To Cut A Short Story Long; The All True Tales of Metal Dude.
