Japanese Breakfast, the experimental pop band led by Michelle Zauner, have shared a cover of Bon Iver’s “Skinny Love,” in addition to a re-recording of their tune, “Be Sweet,” as a part of Spotify Singles, a series that highlights Grammy Nominees in the Best New Artist category.

“Skinny Love” features the same raw guitar cords that opened up the original track. Zauner’s voice is soft and sweet as she moves through the lyrics, which play perfectly off the instrumental arrangement on the cover.

In addition to “Skinny Love,” Japanese Breakfast has also shared a new recording of their song, “Be Sweet,” which appears on their Grammy-nominated LP, Jubilee, released in June 2021 via Dead Oceans. Jubilee is up for Best Alternative Music Album a this year’s Grammy Awards.
