Last night, Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros kicked off their spring tour at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium. The evening featured sit-ins by John Prine’s son Tommy Prine, Wynonna Judd, Cactus Moser, Mickey Raphael and Margo Price on select songs.

The evening began with the Grateful Dead get-down “Shakedown Street” and continued with a debut of “Greatest Story Ever Told,” off Weir’s seminal debut LP, Ace. The band then took on Merle Haggard’s original and Dead staple, “Mama Tried.” Next up, Weir led the band through a cover of Bob Dylan’s “Queen Jane Approximately.”

Tommy Prine took the stage to join the band to take on his father’s original tune, “Great Rain,” which was last played on March 21, 2019, at The Pagent in St. Louis, Mo.  Next, Wynonna Judd and her partner, Cactus Moser, joined the band for a debut cover of The Judd tune, “Why Not Me?”

Judd stuck around and took the lead on “Ramble on Rose.” The band closed out the first set with Price, who sat in for a cover of Sonny West’s “Oh, Boy!” last played on March 11, 2019, at Blue Note Jazz Club in New York City.

The second set got underway with “Friend of the Devil.” Price then took the stage for Kris Kristofferson’s “Me and Bobby McGee,” she stuck around for “Scarlet Begonias,” and a Wolf Bros debut of Dwight Yoakam’s “Fast As You.”

During the latter part of the second half of the show, the band performed a segued selection of tunes which included “Playing in the Band” and “Uncle John’s Band.” Weir associated act Kingfish’s “Supplication” was segued into the mix and was followed by a “Playing in the Band” reprise, which included a sit-in by Raphael.

Weir and his band then launched into a drawn-out take on the Bonnie Dobson original and Grateful Dead favorite, “Morning Dew.” For their encore, the ensemble played “U.S. Blues.”

Tonight, Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros will perform at Orpheum Theatre in Memphis, Tenn. Tickets are still available and can be purchased here.
