Last night, Bob Weir & Wolf Bros performed at Sweetwater Music Hall in Mill Valley, Calif. The event benefited Weir’s RatDog bandmate and bassist, Robin Sylvester, who has been in and out of the hospital throughout the last decade as he awaits a kidney transplant. The evening featured a plethora of bust-outs from across Weir’s illustrious career.

The first set kicked off with a Grateful Dead pairing of “Playing in the Band” into “New Speedway Boogie.” Next up, the ensemble, which features Don Was (bass), Jay Lane (drums), Barry Sless (pedal steel) and Jeff Chimenti (keyboard), pulled out “My Brother Esau” before busting out a funky rendition of “Catfish John,” last played by Weir on March 7, 2014.

“Two Djinn” off 2000’s Evening Moods came next. Bob Weir & Wolf Bros then performed the classic segued duo of “Lost Sailor” into “Saint of Circumstances.” The second set began with another bust out, Bob Dylan’s “Like a Rolling Stone,” featuring a sit-in by Matt Jaffe on guitar and vox. As of late, Jaffe has performed with Jerry Harrison of Talking Heads and other Bay Area musicians.

The group of brothers then broke into a full-bodied jam that began with “Uncle John’s Band” and segued into a bust out of “Supplication” off 2009’s Kingfish, and returned to “Uncle John’s Band.” “Estimated Prophet” came next; Weir and his band played the tune on Instagram Live in the days leading up to their Sweetwater performance.

From one beloved tune to the next, Weir segued “Estimated Prophet” into “Truckin,’” before covering Willie Dixon’s “Spoonful,” a song that the Dead played from time to time. The jam continued with “The Other One” into a soulful “Standing on the Moon.” Fittingly, Weir ended the evening with “Not Fadeaway.”

Tonight, the band will perform their second stand at Sweetwater Music Hall. The evening will once more benefit Robin Sylvester.  Read the full story here.
