Last night, Widespread Panic played the first of three shows at Columbia, S.C.’s Township Auditorium. The performance marked Widespread Panic’s first show in Columbia since they played the Township Auditorium on Valentine’s Day in 2016.

Widespread Panic kicked off the night with a cover of Van Morrison’s “Send Your Mind,” then originals “Porch Song” and “Little Lilly.” Next came a jam of Bukka White’s “Fixin’ To Die” > “Big Wooly Mammoth.” Widespread Panic then busted out “I’m Not Alone” which hasn’t been heard since April 19, 2016, and sandwiched the track with “C. Brown.” The move marked the fifth time they’ve ever sandwiched “I’m Not Alone” and the first time they’ve ever used “C. Brown” as the meat between the proverbial sonic bread. They closed the first set with “Holden Oversoul,” and “You Got Yours.”

The second set started off with a cover of the late Dr. John’s “I Walk On Guilden Splinters,” which hasn’t been played as a set opener since May 4, 1993. They then moved into fan favorites “Rebirtha” > “Jam” > a cover of Junior Kimbrough’s eponymous song “Junior.” Next came, “Walkin’ (For Your Love)” which led to a jam of “Jamais Vu (The World Has Changed)” > J.J. Cale’s “Ride Me High” > Jerry Joseph’s “North.” The covers continued with The Radiators’ “Zigzagging Through Ghostland.” Widespread Panic closed the second set with “All Time Low” into Funkadelic’s “Red Hot Mama.”

Widespread Panic encored with the first “Drinking Muddy Water” since June 29, 2018, and closed the show with “Love Tractor.” They’ll play again at the Township Auditorium tonight.
