On Thursday night, Umphrey’s McGee performed at PromoWest Pavilion At Ovation in Newport, Ky. The band played multiple bust-outs and welcomed Michael “Mad Dog” Mavridoglou to sit in. Due to a family emergency, Jake Cinniger did not perform.

The first set kicked off with “Der Bluten Kat” from the band’s first live album, Songs For Older Women, and segued into “No Comment.” They returned to “Der Bluten Kat” before jumping into “2X2,” which featured a tease of Chuck Mangione’s “Feels So Good.”

The first set finished with Michael “Mad Dog” Mavridoglou joining in on trumpet during 2003’s “Hajimemashite.” The second set picked up with “Slacker” and continued with a bust out, “A Go Go,” last played on April 27, 2017. 

The set continued with a “Wappy Sprayberry” into “Front Porch” with Mad Dog conducting improvisations, followed by another bust out, “Weird Fishes/ Arpeggi,” last played on Feb. 1, 2018, in Columbus, Ohio. The band wrapped the set with “August.”

For their encore, Umphrey’s McGee opened with “Debra,” last played on Dec. 14, 2018, at Now Sapphire Riviera Cancun Puerto Morelos. The band continued with a jam of “In The Kitchen” followed “Half Delay” back into “In The Kitchen” to end the show.
