Last night, Widespread Panic closed out their destination event, Panic en la Playa Diez, at the Hard Rock Hotel in Riviera Maya, Mexico. Their fourth and final performance of the week ended with a three-track encore with Circles Around The Sun keyboardist Adam MacDougall.

Widespread Panic opened with “Greta” which flowed into 1993’s “Pleas.” Next up came “Makes Sense To Me” and a nod to their crowd of intrepid travelers “Pilgrims.” They then played the rowdy “Party At Your Mama’s House” which was followed by the American staple “Ribs And Whiskey.” They slowed things down towards the end of their first set with “Don’t Want To Lose You” before playing a cover of Howlin’ Wolf’s “Tail Dragger,” which brought set one to a close.

The second set kicked off with “Pigeons” which showcased the guitarist Jimmy Herring’s master soloing skills. Widespread Panic then played “Postcard” and a 15-minute performance of “Chilly Water.” Next came “May Your Glass Be Filled” which marked the second time the band has played it live since 2019. They then played “Airplane” > “Impossible” > “Hatfield.” They closed with Tom Petty’s beloved song “You Wreck Me.”

Widespread Panic saved the best for last as they welcomed MacDougall onstage. The keyboardist was all warmed up from his set with Circles Around The Sun earlier that day. MacDougall took to the organ and Clavinet while Widespread Panic maestro John “JoJo” Hermann played piano. They started with a debut cover of The Doors’ “Roadhouse Blues.” Next, they played The Rolling Stones “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” and Widespread Panic original “Ain’t Life Grand.”
