STS9 are the latest group to postpone their New Year’s Eve plans. The livetronica outfit was slated to play a series of hometown shows at Atlanta’s The Eastern from December 29-January 1. The performances would have been the ensemble’s first indoor shows since the advent of COVID nearly two years ago. The musicians said in a statement:

“PLEASE READ: We’ve been keeping a close eye on the recent surge of the COVID-19 Omicron variant that has been spreading at a rapid rate around the country. With the health and safety of our fans, family, friends, crew/team, venue staff, and the ATL community in mind, we have decided to postpone the 4-night New Year’s run. These shows in Atlanta would have been the first we’ve played indoors in two years… and with all four nights almost completely sold out, we felt it wrong to gather together inside and pack out The Eastern multiple days in a row. We have also factored in the fact that everyone will be coming out of the holidays and traveling to Georgia from all over the country. This is a recipe for spreading the virus even more. It was important to all those involved with putting on this event to get the word out ASAP, not only so those coming could have as much time as possible to adjust their travel arrangements, but also so we all don’t run the risk of descending upon ATL just to have shows canceled mid run.For over 20 years we have set out to create safe environments for people to come together to enjoy art and music – an indoor event at this moment has the realistic potential to be unsafe for those we care about. Please know, this decision wasn’t an easy one – it’s a heartbreaking one. We have been looking forward to this event since its conception over a year ago. We’ve been working on overdrive in the studio creating something truly special for everyone. We were so eager to see all of you again. We are working to reschedule these shows as soon as possible. Please hang onto your tickets while we work with The Eastern to find new dates.Along with our crew and team, we appreciate everyone’s understanding here. We hope you have a lovely holiday season ❤️ please stay safe out there. And please join us in doing your part to help stop yet another increase in transmission of the virus. Listen to the experts. Take care of your community. Let’s work together so we see each other again in 2022.”

As of press time, STS9’s next scheduled show is a February 4 engagement at Tucson, AZ’s Gem & Jam.
