Billy Strings continued his four-night run last night at Atlanta’s The Eastern. So far, the artist and his band have performed debuted covers and originals each night, with a final performance happening this evening.
During last night’s first set, Strings and company performed a cover of The String Cheese Incident’s “Black Clouds” off the 1997 LP Born on the Wrong Planet, followed by a debut performance of the southern gothic “The Night The Lights Went out in Georgia” by Vicki Lawrence.
The second set opened with “Secrets” off Strings’ fifth studio album, Renewal, and continued with a cover of Jerry Reed’s “The Likes of Me,” before winding things down with the Grateful Dead’s “Wharf Rat” into John Hartford’s “All Fall Down.”
Saturday’s show follows two nights of epic performances by Strings, with Friday’s concert gaining attention for a debut encore of The Beatles “Ob La Di, Ob La Da.”
The first night at The Eastern featured sit-in fiddler John Mailander. Thursday’s show is also receiving praise for a live debut of Billy Strings’ “I’ll Be Gone a Long Time,” followed by a slew of debut covers, which include Hank Williams’ “Lonesome Whistle,” Stonewall Jackson’s “I Washed My Hands in Muddy Water,” Gaither Carlton’s “Look Up Look Down That Lonesome Road,” as well as a cover of the traditional tune “Workin’ on a Building.”
