Maggie Rose shared a dark, psychedelic, slow-burning cover of Carole King’s seminal track “I Feel The Earth Move.” The cover was premiered on SiriusXM’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame station earlier this week during Rose’s “takeover,” where she shared music by some of her musical heroes.
The track initially comes off of King’s 1971 album Tapestry and clocks in at three minutes, Rose’s masterful reimaging stretches out the song to over five minutes. The rendition is guided by Rose’s ethereal crooning and grows as layered reverb guides the listener towards darker psychedelic headspaces. Still, King’s lyrics are grounded, leading to an enjoyably almost paradoxical listening experience.
“We cut our version in the middle of February and didn’t shy away from the darkness we were all feeling, but that made the process cathartic,” Rose said in a press release. “It is simply an amazing song that brought us all back together during an extraordinary time.”
Rose will close out 2021 with a Dec. 9 show at the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn and a Dec. 19 performance at the Brooklyn Bowl Nashville.
