Paul Thomas Anderson’s new film Licorice Pizza arrived in theaters on Nov. 26, and along with it came a new song from Jonny Greenwood. The track is also named “Licorice Pizza,” and like the rest of the soundtrack, was produced by Graeme Stewart. The stilling delicate instrumental aptly sets the tone for what could be the best film of 2021.

Licorice Pizza‘s soundtrack also features songs by Nina Simone, Paul McCartney and Wings, David Bowie, Sonny & Cher and more. The film is the first release from Anderson since 2017s Phantom Thread. Licorice Pizza is set to star Cooper Hoffman – son of the late Philip Seymour Hoffman, who was a frequent collaborator of Anderson’s – and HAIM‘s Alana Haim. The film will also star Bradley Cooper, Tom Waits, Sean Penn and Benny Safdie.

Greenwood has worked on film scores for nearly 20 years and has previously collaborated with Anderson on There Will Be Blood, The Master, Inherent Vice and Phantom Thread. His work on Phantom Thread was nominated for an Academy Award.
