Widespread Panic continued their Halloween run in the Crescent City on Saturday, Oct. 30, performing two sets, chock-full of hits and nods to the impending spooky celebration.
The band opened with Warren Zevon’s “Werewolves of London,” which they last performed on Jan. 29, 2018 at their Panic En La Playa gathering (the song is also long-associated with Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead’s Halloween shows).
“Werewolves of London” bled into “Henry Parsons Died” and WSP continued on with beloved live cuts like “Big Wooly Mammoth,” “Aunt Avis,” “Greta” and “Second Skin,” before closing the first half with a “Rebirtha”> “Action Man” jam.
Set two kicked off with a thrilling, three-part “Airplane”> “Pusherman”> “Arleen” segment, but fans really went wild a bit later with an expansive journey through “Jack”> “Chilly Water”> “Love Tractor”> “Chilly Water.”
The second half ended with a stand-alone “You Wreck Me,” and Widespread Panic encored with a trio of “City of Dreams,” Dr. John’s “Such A Night” and their own “Ain’t Life Grand.” This marked the band’s first-ever version of “Such A Night,” nodding to the late New Orleans legend in the city that made him famous.
