Tedeschi Trucks Band made their triumphant return to NYC’s Beacon Theatre on Sept. 30, kicking off their seven-night residency at the venue by welcoming guests like Nels Cline and Chris Robinson.

The band opened the evening with Cline in tow, performing covers of The Spencer Davis Group’s “Don’t You Want No More” and the Allman Brothers’ “It’s Not My Cross to Bear.” (Of course, the latter cover nodded to both Derek Trucks’ past in the Allman Brothers as well as the iconic band’s longstanding relationship with the Beacon Theatre.)

The first Tedeschi Trucks Band tune of the night was “Signs, High Time” off the band’s 2019 release of the same name.

Later, Susan Tedeschi dug into her solo catalog, performing the title track off her 1997 LP Just Won’t Burn.

Naturally, the band’s “I Walk on Guilded Splinters” was also a highlight, after which Cline returned to be an auxiliary player on TTB’s original “Shame.”

From there, the group offered a rocking “Made Up Mind” and Bobby “Blue” Bland’s “I Pity The Fool,” before Robinson made his surprise appearance on a set-closing “Space Captain.”

Robinson then stuck around for the encore of Joe Tex’s “Show Me.” (For those in the know, Robinson’s appearance aligned with the Woodstock Film Festival screening of the Return of Mad Dogs & Englishmen film, in which he appears alongside TTB.)
