Just one day after announcing their surprise reunion, the Fugees took the stage at New York City’s Pier 17 on Sept. 22, performing their first show in 15 years.
Of course, the concert started almost three hours late, but patient fans were rewarded with a 45-minute set consisting of cuts from Fugees landmark The Score.
The show opened with the LP’s title track, followed by “How Many Mics,” “Zealots,” “Fu-Gee-La,” “Killing Me Softly” and “Ready or Not.” They closed with their version of Bob Marley’s “No Woman No Cry.”
The group was backed by a team of vocalists and a full horn section. The performance will air as part of the Global Citizen Live television event on Sept. 25.
“There was destiny in us coming together, there was destiny in the touring, and there was destiny in the people we inspired,” Hill reportedly said onstage. “Respect the miracle of this union. Respect that we can get on this stage and still do this.”
Fugees will kick off their The Score 25th anniversary tour in Chicago at the United Center on Nov. 2. They’ll then continue to travel to cities in the United States, The U.K., Europe, and Africa. The tour will come to a close at a venue in Ghana that has yet to be confirmed.
In a press release, Ms. Lauryn Hill said, “The Fugees have a complex but impactful history. I wasn’t even aware the 25th anniversary had arrived until someone brought it to my attention. I decided to honor this significant project, its anniversary, and the fans who appreciated the music by creating a peaceful platform where we could unite, perform the music we loved, and set an example of reconciliation for the world.”

September 23, 2021 at 2:40 pmYea, I was a fan when they first got the group together, but this screams “money grab”- no new material, playing the same songs from 15 – 20 years earlier? But hey, it’s worked for the dead and others for all these years, can’t hate on Lauren and company to get it while there’s people out there who will still pay $ to see them. Won’t be me though.

September 23, 2021 at 12:47 pmLauren Hill is notoriously late to many shows. Partly because she is a racist hack that doesn’t respect her fans
