Last night, Gov’t Mule performed at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park at Manhattan Square, Rochester, N.Y. Their set was comprised of a balance of covers and originals.
They opened the night with a cover of The Staple Singers’ “Hammer and Nails,” then they played their original song, “Rocking Horse.” Gov’t Mule continued with a cover of the Beatles’ “She Said She Said.” Towards the end of their set, they debuted a cover of ZZ Top’s “Nasty Dogs and Funky Kings” and then the Rolling Stones’ “Honky Tonk Women.” The duel covers mark the second time the band has played tribute to the Rolling Stones and ZZ Top; both bands have recently departed members. On Friday in Shelbyville, Delaware, Gov’t Mule played covers of the Rolling Stones’ and ZZ Top’s “Brown Sugar” to the same effect.
Gov’t Mule closed the set with their track “Mule.”
