“We’re going to invite some new friends up to play some music, give it up for Griffin and Taylor from Dawes,” said Goose’s Rick Mitarotonda opening a beautiful 17-minute long performance of their song “This Old Sea.” The stilling rendition took place on the LOCKN’ Farm in Arrington, Va. on the night of Aug. 21.
The collaborative performance started slowly with Mitarotonda and Taylor Goldsmith trading off vocals, over tight percussion, steady bass, blissful keys and gorgeous guitar runs. All the musicians almost immediately found their singular on-stage chemistry as the song progressed. After seven minutes of structured harmonies, the set evolved into an improvisational jam, highlighting the aforementioned chemistry in an arguably more impressive and equally expressive way. Goose and Dawes continue to build their euphonious jam exponentially until the song comes to a close.
The performance was a part of the first-ever Goose curated FRED the festival, which featured Grateful Shred, Dawes, Dr. Dog, Cory Wong, Hiss Golden Messenger and more. Read more about the “FRED the festival” weekend here.
