Phish played the first show of the Atlantic City, N.J. portion of their summer tour on the sandy beaches just off the city’s famous boardwalk. The show marks the first of the three performances set on Atlantic City Beach that will continue through the weekend until Aug. 14.

Phish opened the first set with “Cars Trucks and Buses” a nod to the N.J. turnpike sign that inspired the name of the song and which Trey Anastasio called “a little hometown favorite” to start the night, they then played “AC/DC Bag” perhaps another nod to Atlantic City. The night really got rolling as the band played “Blaze On” then “Wolfman’s Brother,” soon after Jon Fishman took the mic for “I Didn’t Know” and played the vacuum for the first time since the pandemic era began. They closed the first set with “Sand” which of course had to come out on the beach.

The second set opened up strong with “Tweezer” and “Bathtub Gin,” then “Everything’s Right.” Phish then played “Possum” which bled into “2001.” The band continued with Trey Anastasio Band’s “Rise/Come Together” after which they played “Harry Hood.” Phish closed with “More.”

They came back on stage to encore and finish night one with their cover of the Rolling Stones’ “Loving Cup.”
