Karina Rykman has shared a brand new solo single, “Arbitrary.”
According to the bassist – who many recognize for her work with Marco Benevento – this track is a hazy, laid back tune, and a taste of her upcoming, debut album, which has yet to be announced.
“I’m so excited to unleash ‘Arbitrary’ into the world,” Rykman said via press statement. “Made this one with my dear pal, producer, and collaborator Gabe Monro, with whom I have the great privilege of working very closely with these days (who also produced ‘Elevator‘ and ‘No Occasion,’ as well as co-writing ‘Plants’ with me). Adam November contributed his signature ambience created with a variety of his own hand built effects including reverbs, delays, and loopers. Someone I really admire asked me recently, without hearing it, if I’d consider Arbitrary a ‘great song’. I said I wasn’t sure, but one thing I will say about it is I believe it to be extremely singularly “me”. And to me, that’s what matters most. I wanted to create a thick bass groove you’d want to live inside of, sort of the way I feel when I hear Snoop Dogg’s ‘Lodi Dodi.'”
In related news, Rykman also recently scrapped some small, indoor shows due to America’s recent COVID-19 surge, namely, her Aug. 17 show at The Summit in Columbus, OH, her Aug. 18 show at The Point in Chicago, and her Aug. 21 at Cervantes in Denver.
“Even with all the precautions in place, I don’t want to put anyone in a position where they want to come to the show, but feel uncomfortable indoors – as so many of your DMs have expressed, and as I completely understand,” Rykman wrote. “To be the reason someone would grapple with, and go against their judgement on something like that feels horrible. Breakthrough infections are very real. Even though my band and crew are fully vax’d, and I was going to ensure the crowd was as well or had tested negative within 48 hours, I feel it’s prudent at this time to err on the side of caution for the sake of the fans and my band & crew as the variant surges across the nation.”
