With a rainbow lingering in the sky, Phish kicked off their first of two mid-week shows at Hershey Park on Tuesday, Aug. 10.
Naturally the big news coming out of the summertime destination town was the show’s penultimate version of “The Lizards,” marking its first appearance of summer tour and, by extension, 2021. It was last played by Phish proper on 2/21/2020 at the band’s Mexican destination event.
There was still plenty to enjoy in the first half as well, namely a “First Tube” opener, with Trey Anastasio hoisting his guitar overhead, an easy-listening “Gumbo”> “Sample in a Jar” pairing, and summer tour’s first “Death Don’t Hurt Very Long,” which bled into an always-welcome “Run Like an Antelope.”
After a slow-burning second half, the aforementioned “The Lizards” arrived, giving way to a “Character Zero” set -ender and a “Rock and Roll” encore to offer a nice shot of adrenaline.

August 12, 2021 at 12:53 pmPlease turn on the comments box again! So many funny things to comment on… Children under 12 going to shows? Boathouse Gordon singing “Sexy Thing”? No need for retesting during multiple shows? The goofing could be endless!

August 12, 2021 at 9:09 amYou can criticize if, and only if, you can do better. If you attended the show, your band must have had the night off.

August 12, 2021 at 1:32 amShow was just ok. Really not very exciting. SOAM was a highlight. Joy was sweet. But all the warmed over slo funk jams didn’t amount to much.

Since “penultimate” means “second to last,” clearly the author is from the future & telling us there’s only one more “The Lizards” ever!
That or they are just learning what “penultimate” actually means…

August 12, 2021 at 8:38 amThanks for the laugh kevin 🙂
Like something out of Black Mirror, it would be interesting if somewhere onstage they had a number display (think deli) showing the number of times remaining they’re gonna play every song..so maybe for YEM itd read “39”, The Wedge “7”… maybe they play Alumni Blues and it reads “0”—and crowd loses mind because they’re witnessing the final alumni blues played by them
